Want a kid who reads? Iceland knows how

December 6, 2024

Imagine a world where it’s midnight, your kid is on a major sugar high but you are thrilled they are still awake. You just imagined Iceland, every Christmas Eve. Every December 24th, Icelandic parents traditionally gift books to their kids - a tradition called “Book Flood”. Then, with normal bedtime rules suspended, the evening is typically spent reading and drinking hot chocolate + orange soda.. Christmas lunch involves book reviews and book swaps.

To help you create your kid’s personal book flood - here’s what Poppins did. We began with books published in 2024 that the American Library called “outstanding’. After all, forget AI, when in doubt - ask a librarian! Then, we used AI to go hunting for which of these are best rated across Google, Walmart & Amazon. See below for our faves - all new, all highly rated + trending up.
